Océanium, Ambassador of Longitude 181 Nature in Sénégal, launched a fantastic forestation in order to help Casamance's mangrove swamp.

Mangrove is a special forest located in tropical countries on long-shore. So, this ecosystem contains an amazing biodiversity. Some Trees, which develop in water are resistant to haline stress, the others develop in freshwater near to rivers.
In Sénégal, as many locations in the world, mangrove swamp had so much destroyed. Most of time, trees are the only energy ressouces (for eating for instance). Deforestation is sometimes done to develop long-shore : agriculture area, shrimp aquaculture...
But, this destruction induces long-shore instability (weathering ...) and also bad ecological conséquences. In fact, mangrove, with its web of root crops, is an important shelder but also a food well for juveniles. Destroying mangrove implies less juveniles, less fishes and consequently less food for people.

This is reason why, Océanium has been reforesting since one year ago.
" The goal for this year is pioneering in Senegal, explains Jean Goepp, project manager. We want to plant 5 millions of mangroves in collaboration with 130 villages.
Few steps of this programm :
- awareness of local people,
- mobilization and training,
- collecting of young individuals in safe areas
- pricking out
Presently, 3 055 000 mangroves' slips have been plant in 21 villages !
9 000 people is planting, to save mangrove.
Moreover, planting a tree, fight against deforestation but last but not least against poverty.
